Extracted data from low-resolution PDFs and integrated other relevant data sources to investigate possible discrimination in court practices (ongoing litigation).

past work
MKA's founders were instrumental in establishing the Research & Analytics Department at the New York State Office of the Attorney General (NYAG), the first department of its kind across the nation. They expanded their engagement from solely working with the executive bureau within the NYAG to establishing trusted partnerships in building cases from inception, fostering enduring relationships that extend beyond their NYAG tenure. The work of the Research & Analytics Department was instrumental in some of the most notable cases brought by the office, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements and several guilty pleas. Prior to founding MK Analytics, the co-founders were instrumental in a number of cases at the NYAG, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements and guilty pleas:
Served as the data science team behind the $174.2 million settlement with Time Warner Cable, resolving claims of unreliable and subpar internet service provision to customers.
Headed the data science efforts against brokers of foreign exchange currency options, leading to at least $12.5 million in settlements and guilty pleas to charges of securities fraud.
Co-authored and provided analysis for a report on illegal Airbnb rental activity in New York City, leading to significant media coverage - including A1 on the New York Times - as well as reforms by the company.
Uncovered hundreds of landowners potentially non-compliant with New York City’s 421-a tax benefit program through data analysis, leading to several settlements with landlords.
Contributed significantly to the case against landlord Steven Croman, resulting in an unprecedented $8 million restitution to tenants and bringing about improved oversight and management for over 100 Croman properties by using proxy variables found in publicly available data to identify illegal construction intended to harass and intimidate tenants.
Was a primary driver of the team that relaunched NYOpengovernment.com, a joint project between the NYAG and New York University. The site offered an unprecedented interface which provided an innovative interface enabling the public to seamlessly navigate and connect data from 12 distinct public datasets, empowering them to access a comprehensive range of information from contact details to campaign contributions available in both bulk and filtered formats to facilitate independent analysis.
